‘Take bare boobs out of the Sun’ urge Guides
A
Girlguiding movement of around a half-million young women started a campaign to
convince the Sun newspaper to stop the Page Three spread. The No More Page
Three petitioners are aged between 16 and 25 years old and 88% wants an end to
Page Three. They think it sexually objectifies women, especially because it is
a family newspaper. Young girls are exposed to pin-up images and will think
that it is the norm to be exposed like that in order to be successful. They are
of opinion that it is disrespectful and embarrassing. There is hope for these
young ladies when the paper’s owner Rupert Murdoch tweeted that Page Three
might be replaced with a “halfway house” of “glamorous fashionistas”.

My opinion:
I am
against spreads that objectify women, let alone in a sexual way. I know that it
is their own choice to be printed naked on Page Three, but not in a family
newspaper where children can be exposed to these kind of images. The young
girls will think that they have to show off their bodies just to be successful
and that is something that can harm their body image and image about women in
general. The Sun is a NEWSpaper, but where is the news? It is like showing a
commercial about porn during the break of BBC News!
